‘Little change’ to Fraser Is lakes quality
Wednesday, September 16th, 2009 Latest news by adminQueensland Environment Minister Kate Jones has rejected claims the condition of lakes on Fraser Island is deteriorating.
Dr Wade Hadwen has studied the south-east Queensland lakes over a number of years and will tell a Fraser Island conference in Brisbane today that there has been a noticeable decline in water quality.
But Ms Jones says testing of the lakes for nutrient levels and algae has found there has been little change.
“The early results of tests at Lake McKenzie, Basin Lake, Lake Allom … Lake White and in particular Lake McKenzie, which is the most popular lake for visitors, is in very similar condition to what it was 11 years ago,” she said.
